3 Delicious Yet Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids

For kids, there are no official snack hours. They have snacks for dinner, breakfast or just about any time of the day. Whenever they feel hungry or tired, their sole companion is snacks. Since they are never in the right mood to get excited by nutritious foods, the daunting task of keeping them healthy is up to the parents.

So, to make your life easier in the kitchen, let’s dive into the top 3 healthy snack ideas for kids that are yummy and easy to make.

Pumpkin Waffles

A totally delicious recipe, pumpkin waffles are sure to be a hit with your kids. The ingredients for this recipe are 1-1/2 cups of flour, 1-2/3 cups of milk, 1 cup of pumpkin puree, 5 tablespoons of melted butter, nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, coconut oil, maple syrup, and a couple of eggs. A teaspoon of cinnamon, ginger, baking powder, ground nutmeg, and baking soda should be enough for this recipe.

To begin with, you should mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl such as the flour, baking soda, baking powder, brown sugar, ginger, and cinnamon. The next step would be to take a larger bowl to mix all the wet ingredients such as coconut oil, eggs, maple syrup, milk, melted butter, and pumpkin puree. Now, mix both the dry and wet ingredients together.

Finally, preheat waffle iron and pour the mixture into it, and let the mixture heat until the waffles attain a golden brown color. Ideally, it should take around 5 minutes for the waffles to show their true colors. Whipped cream can be added on the waffles for the icing on the cake effect. Pumpkin waffles are now homemade, not too sweet, nutritious and easy to prepare.

Veg Grilled Sandwich

Sandwiches are already the talk of the town. So, why not make them available at home so that your kids can munch on them as an alternative to junk street foods? The ingredients for a tasty grilled sandwich are brown bread, butter, and few slices of onion, carrot, capsicum, and tomato. In other words, these sandwiches pack a lot of necessary vitamins for your children.

To begin with, take a couple of bread slices and spread a generous amount of butter on both sides of the bread. You can also use cheese slices instead of butter. Then put all the other ingredients on the bread before placing it on a preheated sandwich press. Finally, give it a few minutes to heat up until both sides are golden brown.

The grilled sandwiches can also be made in a pan or an oven, depending upon your preference. Use any sauce of your choice, and you should be good to enjoy a lovely and healthy grilled sandwich.

Mini Pizzas

There’s no way this dish will be rejected by your kids. After all, who doesn’t love pizza? Just don’t tell them that this one is healthier. So, let’s get cooking. The first thing to do over here is to preheat the muffin pan to 400 degrees and spray it with any cooking spray. For the ingredients, you will need whole wheat tortilla, shredded cheese and some sauce of your choice.

To get started, take a circular cookie cutter to cut circles out of your tortillas. The circles would be used as the pizza dough. Once you are done with the cutting part, add about a tablespoon of pizza sauce to each of the tortilla crust and press them into the pan and top it with cheese, sauce, and toppings of your choice.

Let them bake for about 10 to 12 minutes. Sneak in some veggies as well to make them super healthy. Quick, fun, and healthy, these mini pizzas could be a grand feast for your kids.
