The obvious way to cut dehydration at its roots would be to ensure sufficient water intake. In a hot climate, you might have to increase the water intake significantly to replace the lost fluids quickly. Also, if your kids are into physical activities, they are naturally savvy of losing a lot of fluid in the form of sweat. So, provide them a hearty share of water to prevent dehydration before it gets the better of them.
Excessive heat can prove to be a fluid vampire because they can suck the fluid from one’s body within no time. Not to forget the fact that excessive sun exposure can also lead to heat stroke. Therefore, it’s advisable to stay out of the sun to retain as much fluid as much as possible. If you have to be outside for too long in the sun, try to limit the sun exposure.
Restrict Caffeine Intake
This may not come as good news to caffeine lovers. However, this disclaimer is worth mentioning. Caffeine can cause our body to lose more fluid than it should. So, one should restrict the consumption of tea, coffee, and soda. Also, one must cut back on all the sports drinks that are high in sugar because they have a diuretic effect that can remove body fluid.

Also, one should be proactive about fluid intake when the kids are suffering from prolonged vomiting or diarrhea because both these conditions can result in fast fluid loss from the body. Severe and rapid fluid loss has been linked to kidney failure. So, monitor the symptoms if your kids are suffering from these conditions so that you can respond to them quickly. As a precautionary measure, encourage your kids to carry wattle bottle with them whenever they venture outside so that they can sip water on the go.
If your kids fall prey to dehydration, don’t try to make things up by providing them with too much water at once. This approach can backfire in a big way by diluting the already low levels of sugars, minerals, and salt in our body. It’s advisable to provide frequent sips of oral rehydration solution to replace lost minerals, sugar, salt, and fluids. If they don’t feel better, it’s recommended to consult the physician as soon as possible.
